LaGrange police, area law enforcement, and Troup county school administrators are collaborating on improving school safety.

LPD Chief Lou Dekmar, Troup County Sheriff James Woodruff, Hogansville Police Chief Brian Harr, West Point Police Chief Donald Britt, Troup County School Superintendent Cole Pugh, and Assistant Superintendent John Radcliffe met Friday to discuss school safety.

During the meeting the group discussed current safety measures and talked about future safety measures scheduled to occur.

They also collaborated on having more consistent active shooter drills and future training in the schools.

LPD Chief Dekmar and Lt. Eric Lohr will be attending a School Safety Summit at the FBI Headquarters later this month and plan to incorporate what they learn in a follow up meeting with the group. 

“We are looking forward to our continued collaboration with the Troup County School System, area law enforcement agencies, and other first responders to facilitate a safe learning environment for our children,” said Lt. Eric Lohr. 

“This training is very important and we take this very seriously.”

The next meeting with the group is scheduled for July 26.
