David Jerome “Big Stew” Gates

The celebration of life service for Mr. David Jerome “Big Stew” Gates of LaGrange will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Warren Temple United Methodist Church on East Depot Street. The Rev. Lovett Thornton will officiate. Burial will be in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Gates, a native of Troup County, was born Sept. 18, 1953, and was the son of Betty Sue Gates and the late Leroy Martin. He was a 1972 graduate of LaGrange High School. He worked at Dixie Mill for many years.

He leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Undriel Copeland (Deneitria), Columbus, David Jerome Gates III, LaGrange; mother, Betty Sue Gates, Stone Mountain, Georgia; two grandchildren, Undriel Copeland Jr. and Camryn Heard, Columbus, Georgia; three sisters, the Rev. Sylvia Simpson Ogo-Oluwa (Sam) and family, Dednick, Jason and Starla, Stone Mountain, Georgia, Linda Daniels and family, Jazmin, LaGrange, Stacier Henry (Stanley), and family, Erica and Bryan, Stone Mountain, Georgia; one brother, Ronnie Gates and family, Brittany and Tonia, Fairburn, Georgia; aunt, Geneva Towns, Mountville, Georgia; many nieces, nephews, relatives and loving friends.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, David Jerome Gates II; grandmother, Louise Thornton; and uncle, Isaac Gates.

The family will be at the home of his sister, Linda Daniels at 64 North Cary Street, Apt. C-16.
