Ms. Lorene Turner Byrd

Lorene Turner Byrd passed away Thursday.

She was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to the late Rev. William Edward Turner and Mrs. Pearl McMillian Turner.

Upon graduating from Bennett College, she was employed as a teacher at Ethel Kight High School and later Newnan High School where she retired. She was also employed by Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home.

She was a faithful member of St. Paul AME Church, Hogansville.

Survivors include her children,  W. Olin (Mary) Byrd, III of Fayetteville; D. Lynette Byrd of LaGrange; Patrice (James) Benson of Auburn, Alabama; and Maurice Byrd of Irving, Texas; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one god-daughter; two brothers, Edward Turner of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and William Turner of Gulf Port, Mississippi; four sisters-in-law,  Hazel Jackson of Hogansville; Lois (Frank) Jenkins of Montgomery, Alabama; Tommie (Art) Lax of Kankakee, Illinois; and Jettie Butler of Kennesaw; one brother-in-law, Grady (Bettye) Bryd of East Point; special cousin, Jackie Strother, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and former colleagues, and students.

The service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church. 

The family will be at their home at 217 Poplar Street.

The excellent care of Mrs. Byrd is being provided by Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home.
