ELLAVILLE – They took care of business.

The Troup County 11-12-year-old all-stars completed a perfect stay in the Dixie Youth Baseball district tournament with a 9-2 victory over the host Schley County team on a scorching Sunday afternoon.

Had Troup County lost the game, it would have played Schley County in a winner-take-all game today.

Troup County made sure that wouldn’t be necessary, though, by rolling to the one-sided win over Schley County, which won a game earlier in the day to advance to the championship round.

Next up for Troup County will be the state tournament in Swainsboro, which begins on July 6.

In Sunday’s game, Troup County ended the suspense early by scoring three runs in the first inning, and four more in the second to take a 7-0 lead.

Troup County was ahead 9-0 when Schley County scored its two runs in the fifth inning.

Steven Hill was Troup County’s starting pitcher, and he threw three shutout innings.

Garrett Huckleberry pitched the fourth and fifth innings, and Bryce Hubbard tossed a scoreless sixth inning to finish it.

Troup County went 4-0 in the tournament.
