Lawton Lamar Cowart

Lawton Lamar Cowart, age 78, of LaGrange, Georgia, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018. Lawton was born July 23, 1939, in Anderson, South Carolina, to the late Joesph Leonard Cowart, Sr. and Beatrice Gary Cowart.

Mr. Cowart retired from West Point Pepperell after 22 years and served as plant  manager. Mr. Cowart served in the U.S. Army for six years and also a graduate of Clemson University in 1966 and earned his bachelor of science in textile management and technology. He was a member of the baseball team with Clemson University and selected as a first team ACC player. He also was an avid outdoors man who loved to fish and hunt.

Lawton is survived by; son, Kevin and Leigh Cowart; daughter, Lori and Richard Fuller; sister, Brenda and Jack Thrasher; sister-in-law, Lib Cowart; grandchildren, Justin Neighbors, Kevin Neighbors and Ryan Fuller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Leonard Cowart Jr. and Harold Major Cowart.

The gathering of family and friends for Lawton will be held Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. A celebration of life service will be Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 4 p.m. with Dr. Mike Reeves officiating.
