Woman stops man from stealing her vehicle

A woman took matters into her own hands after a man attempted to steal her car Friday. According to the police report, a man in his 20s entered her truck while she helped her mother inside the Emory-Clark-Holder clinic on Smith Street.

The woman told police she saw the man in the driver seat of the truck, attempting to put it in gear.

According to the police report, the woman grabbed her gun from in-between the seat and pointed it at him while telling him to get out of the vehicle. The man exited the vehicle and ran into the woods across Smith Street, according to the police report. No arrests had been made at the time of the report.

Minors arrested for stolen

Two minors were arrested after being found with stolen firearms Thursday.

According to the police report, an officer observed a vehicle attempting to pass another car by going over double solid lines. After the second attempt, the officer turned on his vehicle’s lights, but the other vehicle failed to stop. According to the police report, the officer noticed “overt movements within the vehicle” and thought the driver and passenger switched seats or attempted to hide contraband or weapons. After the vehicle stopped, the officer made the driver step out of the vehicle.

According to the police report, the passenger told police he was initially driving the vehicle, and the two minors switched seats.

While searching the vehicle, the officer discovered two semi-automatic pistols in a compartment. One of the guns was stolen, according to the report. According to Troup County Jail arrest/release reports, one of the minors was charged with possession of a handgun under 21, improper passing solid yellow line and failure to use safety belts in a passenger vehicle. The second minor was charged with failure to use safety belts in a passenger vehicle, possession of a handgun under 21 and theft by receiving.

House burglarized

A Roku TCL 36-inch television screen was allegedly stolen from a residence on the 100 block of Foch Street Thursday between 2 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The owner valued the television at $350.

A neighbor told police he was walking past the residence when he noticed that a trash can was out of place and an air-conditioning unit was pushed in.

According to the police report, the homeowner’s bedroom was ransacked.

Parts stolen from truck

More than $1,000 work of vehicle parts were stolen from a Ford F450 at J&L Transmission on Swain Street between July 10 and Friday. The owner told police when the mechanics pulled his truck into the bay it would not start.

The mechanics went to check the battery and found it was in good condition. However, the starter, fuel module, harness for the fuel module, front fuel lune assembly and rear line assembly were missing, according to the police report. The owner told police he had his vehicle parked outside the shop.

The total amount of items stolen was $1,618. 20.
