Former Callaway Cavalier Terry Godwin, a senior wide receiver for the Georgia Bulldogs, has earned a spot on the all-SEC preseason team.

Members of the media who cover the SEC selected the team, and Godwin is a second-team pick.

Godwin is coming off his most successful season as he helped lead Georgia to an SEC championship and a spot in the national-championship game against Alabama.

Godwin started all 15 games for Georgia, and he had 38 catches for 639 yards with six touchdowns.

Godwin had some of his best games in the most important moments of the season.

He led the team with five catches for 48 yards in a 28-7 win over Auburn in the SEC championship game.

In the playoffs, Godwin had five catches for 51 yards in a dramatic 54-48 double-overtime win over Oklahoma.

In the national-title game, a 26-23 overtime loss, Godwin had four catches for 48 yards.

Godwin is joined on the all-SEC team by 11 of his teammates.

Godwin had the option of entering the NFL draft following his junior season, but he decided to return to a team hopeful of winning a national championship.

“We had a special year last year. I feel like I know for a fact that this season is going to be special as well,” Godwin said at SEC media days last week. “I want to be a part of this Georgia team as long as I can.”

Jonathan Ledbetter (defensive line), D’Andre Walker (linebacker) and Rodrigo Blankenship (place kicker) made the first team, D’Andre Swift (running back), Isaac Nauta (tight end), Andrew Thomas (offensive line), Lamont Gaillard (center), Jonathan Ledbetter (defensive line), D’Andre Walker (linebacker) and Mecole Hardman made the second team, and Jake Fromm (quarterback) made the third team.

GEORGIA THE PICK: Georgia and Alabama, who played for the national championship last season, are the run-away picks to win their respective divisions in the SEC.

The preseason media predictions were unveiled on Friday.

Georgia was the pick to win the SEC East, while Alabama was predicted to take top honors in the SEC West.

South Carolina was picked to finish second in the East, and it was followed by South Carolina, Florida, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Picked to finish behind Alabama in the SEC West are Auburn, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, LSU, Ole Miss and Arkansas.

Alabama, which beat Georgia in overtime to win the national championship, was picked to win the SEC.

Coach Kirby Smart hopes the experience the players gained will be beneficial.

“I think we grow from it,” Smart said. “I think the entire season is a learning experience. It was a confidence builder for a lot of guys on our team.”
