Good teachers and educators work a lot of hours and set students up to be successful. We can probably all name that one teacher who guided us through school and helped us reach for the stars.

In Friday’s edition of The LaGrange Daily News, we wrote about the Troup County School System promoting three administrators. Dr. Penny Johnson was promoted to assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and professional learning; Whitney Glisson was promoted as the director of secondary education; and Elizabeth Watts was named the new principal at Troup High School.

Johnson previously worked as the school system’s director of secondary education and as the principal of LaGrange High School. Glisson had worked as the assistant principal at Long Cane Middle School. She has 15 total years of experience working in education.

Watts has worked as the THS assistant principal since 2015 and is an alumna of the school. She will replace Chip Medders, Troup High’s previous principal, who was promoted last month to the human resource director for the school system.

All of the searches were nationwide, and ended with a TCSS candidate taking the job. It’s always a positive to hire from within when possible and TCSS has done that with these key positions.

Congrats to Johnson, Glisson, Medders and Watts, and good luck. And we also want to wish a happy retirement for Karen Cagle and Sequita Freeman, two administrators that just retired after decades of work with the Troup County School System.

They attended their last board meeting last week and were rightfully thanked for their service.
