Everyone loves Fridays, especially when it’s time to get off work. Residents of the City of LaGrange got an extra surprise Friday afternoon as well, when news broke that the Greenville Street Bridge would be repaired.

The bridge has been closed since February 2016, forcing detours for drivers who regularly drive that street. The project will cost $8.9 million, but the money is coming from the Georgia Department of Transportation, not the City of LaGrange. 

The estimated completion date for the bridge is Oct. 31, 2019.

The bridge has been a talking point at LaGrange City Council and Troup County Commission meetings over the last few years. 

While it’s not going to be open tomorrow — or any time soon — just hearing progress about the bridge is a good thing at this point. The bridge is 81 years old and is in definite need of replacement.

We’re glad it’s finally going to be replaced and back open.
