Myrtie Jo Kirby

Myrtie Jo Kirby, 91, of LaGrange, Georgia, was gracefully beckoned into the arms of Jesus, while surrounded by her children at West Georgia Hospice.

Mrs. Kirby was born May 30, 1927, in Woodland, Alabama, to the late Durward L. Chase and Margaret Rosenheim Strain Chase. She was employed with Playtex for a number of years and retired from the Troup County School System as a teacher’s assistant. Mrs. Kirby was a faithful member of Rosemont Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melton E. Kirby. Survivors include her brother, Roger R. (Martha) Chase of Wilmington, North Carolina; son, Ronald Kirby of Savannah, Georgia; daughters, Sue (Teddy) Brown of LaGrange, Georgia, and Tracy (Jesse) Salas of Snellville, Georgia; grandchildren, Matt (Katie) Brown, Brian (Jordona) Kirby, Kim (Travis) Bragg, Jared (Laura) Brown, Susanna Brown, Abbey Salas, and Alec Salas; five great grandchildren; loving caregivers, Betty O’Neal Duffee and Mary Woodard; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, July 25, 2018, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018, in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with the Rev. Adam Camp officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
