It’s go time.

The Callaway Cavaliers, LaGrange Grangers and Troup Tigers were all on the field on Wednesday for the first official day of preseason practice.

It was a day of transition for the teams as they shifted from their summer programs to the start of mandatory practice.

According to the Georgia High School Association calendar, the first week of preseason practice is set aside for conditioning, and there is no contact allowed.

That’ll change on Aug. 1 when teams are permitted to hold their first full-contact practices.

As has been the case for the past few years, teams must adhere to the heat and humidity policies set aside by the GHSA.

If the temperature combined with the humidity as measured by a wet bulb reaches a certain level, teams have to adjust their practice schedules.

Practices can be shortened, or even moved inside if the wet bulb readings are high enough.

Each of the teams will be on the field in less than three weeks for a preseason game, and things kick off for real on Aug. 17 when LaGrange hosts Heard County.

Callaway and Troup begin their seasons on Aug. 24.

Callaway will be at home against Opelika, and Troup visits Ridgeland.
