After spending the past two seasons as a graduate assistant on the North Georgia softball team, former LaGrange Academy stand-out Molly Child is getting a promotion.

Child, who was a four-year starter at the University of South Carolina-Aiken, has been named the new assistant softball coach at North Georgia.

The move was announced by head coach Mike Davenport on Tuesday morning.

Child was a part of a North Georgia program that enjoyed tremendous success the past two years.

The Nighthawks reached the NCAA Division II super regional both years, and it made it to the NCAA championship last year as the top seed.

Child came to North Georgia after excelling as a player as USC-Aiken.

She started all 220 games during her four years with the program, and she was an All-American as a sophomore when she hit .405 with 13 home runs and 53 RBIs.

Molly Child’s sister Abby Child is an assistant coach at Georgia Southwestern.

Abby Child also played at USC-Aiken, and she and Molly were teammates for two years.

Abby Child has been on the Georgia Southwestern staff the past two seasons.
