On Monday, the owner of a winning lottery ticket purchased in Hogansville stepped forward to claim $682,871, according to a Georgia Lottery spokesperson.

Two winning tickets were sold for the $1,365,742 Fantasy 5 prize, which was split between the winners. The ticket that was purchased in Hogansville was purchased at Valero at 1945 East Main Street. Another winner purchased a ticket at QuikTrip #709 in Atlanta and has stepped forward to claim that ticket. The drawing was Aug. 2.

According to the Georgia Lottery spokesperson, the Hogansville winner wished to remain anonymous. That anonymity is now allowed under State Bill 331, which was signed into law by Gov. Nathan Deal on May 7, 2018. The Georgia Lottery spokesperson was unable to say if the winner was from Troup County.

According to a press release from the Georgia Lottery, since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $19.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education.

All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program.

More than 1.8 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.6 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
