It was a break-even weekend for the Callaway softball team, which won two and lost two in the Callaway Classic at Shuford Fields.

Callaway beat North Springs and Hardaway, and it lost to Brookstone and Landmark Christian.

Callaway played part of the weekend short-handed, with Jasmine Dukes unable to go on Saturday because of an injury.

Callaway is 4-3, and it will play Upson-Lee and Bowdon before opening Region 5-AA play on Aug. 21 against Jordan.

Callaway finished the weekend with a hard-fought game against Landmark Christian, and it lost 4-3.

Senior Oeisha Jenkins, Callaway’s number one pitcher, threw all six innings, and head coach Robyn McCann was proud of the way she competed against a solid team.

“That was the best game she’s pitched, period,” McCann said. “Attitude-wise, she was into it. She came into the dugout and said, let’s do this. That was encouraging.”

Offensively, Lydia Bartlett had a pair of hits, and Leijorey  Sanders, Jenkins and Kourtney Grier each had a hit.

Earlier on Saturday, Callaway outlasted Hardaway 6-4, with Alexus Furgerson getting the win on the mound.

Leijorey Sanders had two hits, including a double, and she scored three runs.

Kourtney Grier had a double, and Oeisha Jenkins had a hit with two runs scored.

On Friday, Callaway lost to Brookstone 6-0 before beating North Springs 7-5.

In the North Springs game, Leijorey Sanders had two hits with two runs scored from the top of the lineup.

Oeisha Jenkins had a double, and Lydia Bartlett, Natalee Waddell, Kailea Speer and Lindsay Cofield each had a hit.

Alexus Furgerson was the starting and winning pitcher.
