Hogansville meeting canceled

The Hogansville City Council had a work session and a council meeting scheduled for Monday night, but both meetings were cancelled due to the lack of a quorum.

Only two council members — Fred Higgins and George Bailey — showed up to the meeting, according to Mayor Bill Stankiewicz. Council members Marichal Price, Reginald Jackson and Theresa Strickland were unable to attend. Stankiewicz said Jackson had previously said he’d miss the meeting, while both Strickland and Price had different reasons come up.

Stankiewicz has called for a meeting Monday, Aug. 27. No agenda is available yet for the upcoming meeting, but the scheduled work session included a proposed film production ordinance, the demolition of a condemned home and several other issues. The council meeting, which was scheduled for right after it, was supposed to include a discussion on the Royal Theatre.

“We have too much work to do, and we’re going to get it done,” Stankiewicz said. “I’m having the meeting, and they need to show up.”

This past week’s cancelled work session included a presentation from the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia. Stankewicz said the presentation took place, despite the low attendance.

“Unfortunately, for the work session, we had two gentlemen from MEAG to come and make a presentation at the request of council, and they weren’t here to hear it,” Stankiewicz said.

“I had them give the presentation, and we tape recorded it. I told the council if they are interested in it, they can come listen to that tape.”

Monday’s meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Hogansville City Hall.
