New pickup towers at the Walmart Supercenter in LaGrange should make shopping a little easier for customers.

Walmart announced in a press release that supercenter stores in LaGrange and Marietta are the newest Georgia locations to get the new technology. The LaGrange location is at 803 New Franklin Road.

“Walmart is a leader in retail innovation, and the Pickup Tower technology is substantial proof of the company’s intentions to stay at the forefront,” said Kevin Hester, Walmart Regional eCommerce Director, in a press release. “Shopping in our stores is already designed to be as easy as possible, but these new machines up the ante, and get shoppers in and out even faster. We couldn’t be more pleased to bring this technology to these new communities.”

According to the press release, the Pickup Towers are 16-feet-tall and function like high-tech vending machines, capable of fulfilling a customer’s online order in less than a minute.

To use the pickup tower, customers choose from millions of items available on Walmart.com and select the “Pickup” option at checkout. When the item arrives at your local store, an associate loads it into the Pickup Tower and the customer will receive a notification.

When the customer arrives at the store, they step up to the Pickup Tower and scan the bar code sent to their smartphone. The customer will receive their order in less than a minute.

In April, Walmart announced it expects to spend an estimated $38 million over the next year in Georgia through the remodeling of 11 stores, as well as the rollout of several in-store and online innovations designed to further improve the customer experience.
