The Troup County Board of Commissioners is launching the McCluskey Tennis Center SPLOST V project, and temporarily closing portions of the facility during renovations.

The first stage of the project officially began on Monday, and is expected to continue until the spring of 2019. During this time, the pro-shop building and six asphalt courts will be closed until further notice for remodeling. Citizens will begin to see demolition activity within the first few days of the project.

The project includes interior and exterior renovations to the facility, including a new roof, extended decking, an additional entrance to the facility, asphalt court renovations, lighting upgrades and a thorough remodel of the pro shop building. As of Wednesday, all of the clay tennis courts remain open. A soft launch date to begin the second stage of enhancements to the remaining portion of planned improvements is set to begin on Nov. 1, 2018.

The Troup County Board of Commissioners are working with a local construction company Principle-Williams Construction of LaGrange, to perform the renovations.

The project is being funded through SPLOST funds, the Callaway Foundation, who donated a renovation grant to the Board of Commissioners in March 2018, and the Chattanooga Valley Tennis Association’s fundraising efforts.

The McCluskey Tennis Center is a widely utilized facility for the citizens of Troup County. It is used by LaGrange High School, Troup High School, and it is also the host site for the USA South Spring Sports Festival.

“This is very important for our growing tennis community here in Troup County,” said Cajen Rhodes, director of Troup County Parks and Recreation.

“We’re thrilled about this project because it will add several desired amenities and enable the community to acquire the adequate space they need for daily use and frequent tournaments.”
