According to information released by the City of Hogansville, Elm Street will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic between State Route 29 and Poplar Street beginning on Sept. 4.

Construction is expected to be completed by Nov. 2, but there is a possibility that the roadway will reopen sooner. The City of Hogansville will post updates to its social media site as warranted.

According to information from the city, the repairs are necessary due to flooding in December 2015 and January 2016, which caused significant infrastructure damage. A disaster declaration was issued, and Hogansville sought and received monetary relief from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for several infrastructure projects, including the Elm Street Bridge, a historic structure built in 1938 by the Works Progress Administration using railroad tracks and rails. 

According to the city, the bridge is being removed and a new box culvert installed along with new guardrails. The roadway that traverses the creek will then be paved and opened to traffic.
