Mrs. Joyce Merna, 78, of LaGrange, passed away Thursday at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center.  Mrs. Merna was born Oct. 19, 1939, in Tallapoosa, Alabama, the daughter of the late Albert “Leon” and Mrs. Ozell Cox Pitts.

She was a former driver for Troup County Transit and a teacher’s aide in the Troup County School System.

Mrs. Merna was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Merna, and sister, Janice Bishop and brother, Lester Pitts.

Survivors include sons, Mike Merna and Wallace Leatherwood, Lanett, Alabama, Steve and Heather Merna, LaGrange, Georgia, and Robbie Merna, LaGrange, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Sarah Pitts, Lanett, Alabama; brother-in-law, Joe Bishop, Atlanta, Georgia; and numerous extended family members.

Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Merna will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, from the Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel with interment to follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 o’clock.
