It’ll be a top-10 matchup.

The Callaway Cavaliers and Troup Tigers will meet on Friday night at Callaway Stadium and they’ll both enter the game ranked among the top 10 teams in their respective classifications.

The Georgia Sports Writers Association released its weekly poll on Tuesday, and while Callaway is ranked second in Class AA, Troup is eighth in Class AAAA.

Both teams have been impressive in the early going.

Troup (3-0) has outscored Ridgeland, Columbus and Harris County by a combined score of 132-20.

Troup led 40-7 at the half of last week’s game on the way to a 53-6 victory over Harris.

Callaway (3-0) began its season with a 35-21 win over an Opelika team that reached the Class AAAAAA quarterfinals in Alabama last year.

Callaway followed that up with a 14-0 win over LaGrange, and it thumped Cross Keys 50-0 last week.

The only team ahead of Callaway in Class AA is defending state champion Hapeville Charter, which is a unanimous number one selection.

Bremen, which is in Region 5-AA along with Callaway, is ranked third, and Dodge County and Thomasville complete the top five.

Rabun County, Brooks County, Rockmart, Dublin and Washington County round out the top 10.

In Class AAAA, defending state champion Blessed Trinity is ranked first, and it received all 18 first-place votes.

Marist is second, and Cartersville, Mary Person, St. Pius X, Flowery Branch, Eastside, Troup, Burke County and Thomson complete the top 10.

Cartersville, which won the Class AAAA state titles in 2015 and 2016, is in Region 5-AAAA with Troup, and those teams will face off in the final game of the regular season.

In the state’s largest classification, Class AAAAAAA, Colquitt County is first, and Lee County is first in Class AAAAAA.

Rome is the top-ranked team in Class AAAAA, Calhoun is ranked first in Class AAA, and Clinch County is tops in Class A.
