It’s bounce-back time for the Lafayette Christian School Cougars.

After opening the season with two straight wins, the Cougars dropped their past two games to fall to 2-2.

If there’s a silver lining it’s that the two victories came against region foes, while the losses were versus non-region opponents.

Today, Lafayette Christian will be in Macon to take on Covenant Christian in a non-region game.

If Lafayette Christian wins, it would reach the mid-point of the regular season with a winning record.

“We can hit the halfway point at 3-2, and we’re looking to do that,” Lafayette Christian head coach Nate Shaw said. “We’re pretty healthy to this point in the season. We’re working on our depth. We’re doing some good things. We’re improving as a team in certain ways.”

In last week’s game, it was competitive for a while, but Life Christian pulled away for a 52-10 victory.

“We controlled the first quarter, and we should have gone in 14-3 at the halftime, but we gave up a late touchdown with like 20 seconds left,” Shaw said.

Quarterback Landon Whitley had 20 carries for 73 yards for the Cougars, and he scored the team’s lone touchdown.

Amani Jenkins ran for 16 yards on six carries, and he had one run of 10 yards.

“We came out and we fought, and we had some good things happen, it just got away from us,” Shaw said.

Lafayette Christian will begin the second half of the regular season with a showdown against Central Christian on Sept. 21.

The two rivals met in the GICAA state-championship game in 2015, with Lafayette Christian getting the win.

“The kids are having a hard time not looking forward to Central,” Shaw said. “That place is going to be a zoo.”

Also today, the Unity Preparatory Academy Rams will look to make it two wins in a row when they host the SC Titans from Hartwell, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. at Hendrix Field in Hogansville.

Unity Prep improved to 3-1 with last week’s 58-0 win over the Unstoppable Knights at Hendrix Field in Hogansville.

Damarco White had a big day for the Rams with three rushing touchdowns.
