Chapel Hill, which shares the Region 5-AAAA lead along with Central-Carroll, scored four second-inning runs on the way to a 6-0 victory over LaGrange on Thursday afternoon.

Chapel Hill (19-4 overall) improved to 9-1 in the region to remain atop the standings, while LaGrange (16-6) fell to 8-3 in the region.

With one region game remaining against Central-Carroll, LaGrange is in third place.

If LaGrange finishes third, it would host the region’s number six seed in a best-of-three series with a berth in the state playoffs on the line.

Troup, which lost to Central-Carroll 13-5 on Thursday in its final region game, is in sixth place.

LaGrange was limited to two hits against Chapel Hill pitcher Kira Morgan, who pitched the seven-inning shutout.

Camden Smith threw the complete game for LaGrange.

Kassidy Amerson-Fox had two hits for Chapel Hill, including a home run.

Destiny Fitzpatrick and Katelynn Mobley had LaGrange’s hits.

TROUP: Central-Carroll was trailing 5-1 when it exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the third inning, and it went on to win 13-5 in a game shortened to five innings because of the run rule.

While Central had nine hits, only two of its runs were earned thanks to 11 Troup errors.

Leadoff hitter Kayla Lane had two hits, including a double, and she drove in three runs.

Morgan Watkins also had two hits, Olivia McInvale had a hit and an RBI, and Madison McCartney, Skye Loftin, Tashuana Askew and Avery Pearson each had a hit.

Pearson and Makenzie Miller handled the pitching duties for Troup.

CALLAWAY: The rematch was much more competitive, but the result was the same.

Earlier this season, Heard County enjoyed a big offensive day on the way to a 13-3 road win over Callaway.

Those same two teams played again on Thursday in Franklin, and Heard County outlasted Callaway 4-0.

Oeisha Jenkins pitched a complete game for Callaway and did a nice job of slowing a powerful Heard County offense.

Callaway (8-15 overall) fell to 3-5 in Region 5-AA, and it will finish its region schedule with a home game against Temple on Tuesday.
