Mr. Larry Joe Lowery

Larry Joe Lowery Sr., 74, of LaGrange, Georgia, was ushered into the presence of the Lord on Saturday morning, Sept. 22, 2018, from WellStar West Georgia Hospice.

Mr. Lowery was born May 9, 1944, to the late Carl Jackson Lowery and Annie Bell Stapler Lowery. He was a faithful member of Independent Church of Worship and loved spending time with his family, being outdoors, tending to all his animals, especially the chickens and “wetting a hook” as often as possible. “Pop” as he was affectionately known, retired from Signal Apparel, and enjoyed retirement delivering newspapers for The LaGrange Daily News and Troup County News. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters and a great grandchild.

Survivors include his children, Larry Joe (Sandy) Lowery Jr., Gary (Lisa) Lowery, Tracey Lowery, Becky Johnson (Jacqueline Shaver), and Carla (Jerry) Scarborough; grandchildren, Shannon (Bud) Doughtie, Misty (Samantha) Lowery, Courtney Lowery, Megan Lowery, Colby Lowery, Tim Lowery, Nicole Lowery, Ryan Johnson (Scarlett Smallwood), Priscilla Scarborough (Seth Walker) and Clay Scarborough; great grandchildren, Tripp Bunn Lowery, Elijah Smith, Ethan Doughtie, Danielle Doughtie, Allie Bailey and Alex Bailey; sister, Lucille (Ron) Degler; brother, Jessie Lowery; two cousins that were like sisters, Annie Ruth (Johnny) Harrod and Delsie (Doyle) Lovvorn; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The gathering of family and friends will be 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Minister Jerry Scarborough officiating. Burial will follow in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to WellStar West Georgia Hospice for their wonderful and loving care of Larry Joe Lowery Sr. during his decline.
