Callaway, LaGrange back in action

The Callaway softball team, after securing a spot at state with Tuesday’s win over Temple, will try to win a region championship today.

Callaway, along with Heard County, Bremen and Lamar County, will participate in the Region 5-AA semifinals today in Franklin.

Callaway, the number four seed, will face top-seeded Heard County at noon.

In the other semifinal game, it will be Lamar County against Bremen at 2 p.m.

At 4 p.m., the losers of the early games will meet in the third-place game, and the winning teams will face off at 6 p.m. in the championship game.

Callaway played Heard County twice in the regular season, and it lost both games.

Callaway lost 13-3 to Heard County at home, and it fell 4-0 on the road.

Whatever happens today, Callaway will be one of 32 teams participating in the Class AA state tournament that begins next week.

Also today, LaGrange’s softball team will host Cedartown in the third-place game in the Region 5-AAAA tournament.

LaGrange beat Troup on Tuesday in the opening round of the region tournament to qualify for state.

LaGrange will be on the road next week for the first round of the state tournament.
