Disposing prescriptions safely

common phrase for the Troup County Prevention Coalition is “everyday can be drug take back day in Troup County.” Last week, we wrote about the TCPC distributing DisposeRX, a home prescription disposal packet that deactivates expired medicine.

In addition to prescription drug drop-off boxes at all of the local law enforcement agencies, Troup County residents can now dispose of unused and expired prescriptions. People can fill the precription vial with water and then the contents of the packet, which after shaking, turns the solution into a gel-like substance.

The TCPC was given a grant to give out 2,000 of the packets at community events. Additionally, local pharmacies at Walmart and Walmart Neighborhood Market in LaGrange are giving out Dispose RX packets with prescriptions.

DisposeRX helps prescription users prevent drug abuse and misuse right in their own homes.

In addition to the drop-off boxes, people now have another way to dispose drugs safely. This is greatly effective for people who cannot leave home and don’t have access to travel to the drug drop-off boxes.
