There’ll be a Saturday matinee at Callaway Stadium.

The Callaway Cavaliers and Spencer Greenwave were originally going to play on Thursday in a Region 5-AA showdown, but because of concerns over the weather, the decision was made to postpone the game.

Callaway and Spencer will instead play on Saturday, with kickoff set for noon.

Callaway is looking to move a step closer to a possible region championship.

Callaway (6-1 overall), which beat Lamar County 45-6 last week, will bring a 3-0 region record into the game.

Spencer has struggled to a 1-5 overall record, but it is very much in the playoff picture with a 1-1 region record.

Playing the game on Saturday means Callaway will have a short week to prepare for its showdown with rival Heard County on Oct. 19.

Callaway closes the regular season at home against Jordan on Oct. 25.

Callaway has been rolling since the start of region play.

In its three region games, Callaway has outscored its opponents 131-31, and that included a 37-25 win over previously unbeaten Bremen.

Saturday’s game means there will be two high-school games at Callaway Stadium in two days.

LaGrange and Troup will resume their rivalry on Friday at 7:30 p.m., leading up to Saturday’s game.
