During the third weekend of October every year, the City of Hogansville grows exponentially as visitors from near and far pour onto its streets looking for fun, crafts and festival food at the annual Hummingbird Festival.

This year promises to be no different with festivities set to begin with a dinner, dance and silent auction scheduled for Thursday. The festival itself begins Saturday and will run through Sunday. The festival will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

The festival typically features crafts ranging from soaps to wooden signs to pottery to paintings available for purchase in addition to fun activities for children. This year organizers report that the festival will feature 200 vendors.

In recent years, other events like the Tower Trail 5K and Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade have also helped Hogansville’s residents get ready for the main event. These are fun community events, and we are excited to see how they grow with the festival.

The Hummingbird Festival is more than just an opportunity to shop and eat though. It is an opportunity to get to support a historic small city in Troup County. All proceeds from the festival benefit the Hogansville Charitable Trust, which help with projects that benefit the community throughout the year.

The 501(c)3 nonprofit has helped fund projects like the Tower Trail, renovations to the Royal Theater and the creation of an outdoor classroom. According to the Hummingbird Festival website, the Hogansville Charitable Trust has leveraged more than $3,000,000 in improvements to Hogansville. Another notable addition made possible by the nonprofit was the purchase of Askew Park, which we have no doubt will be full of  festival goers this weekend.

That is in addition to donations made to the American Red Cross’ Katrina Relief Fund, the Shriners Hospital, the Boys and Girls Clubs of West Georgia, “Breast Friends for Life,” Hogansville’s GED program and God’s Bread Basket using funds raised by the festival.
