The Troup County School Board of Education hopes to name a new superintendent by the first full week of February.

The board met with representatives from McPherson & Jacobson on Sept. 27 to set some of the dates, but reworked the timeline at that meeting. The final planning calendar was released on Monday at the board’s work session.

The next step on the planning calendar are stakeholder group meetings that will take place Nov. 13 through Nov. 15. Those meetings will include group discussions with administrators, classified staff, students, teachers, business and political leaders, community meeting by invitation, community meeting open to all and a parent meeting for PTA leaders from all the schools.

On Nov. 15, the board of education will hold a meeting and review the stakeholder input and select interview questions.

“All of those [stakeholder meetings] will be to provide the consultants and ultimately the board input on what each of the various groups would like to see in the next superintendent,” said interim superintendent Roy Nichols.

The open position has been posted to McPherson & Jacobson and TopSchoolJobs.com and will close on Dec. 17, according to the timeline released Monday. At the Jan. 24 board meeting, the school board will meet with stakeholder group chairs, review candidates, select finalists, review interview questions and finalize the daily interview schedule.

The interviews will take place on Jan. 28, and the selection of the new superintendent will take place Feb. 7. According to the planning calendar, the starting date of the new superintendent will be July 1, 2019, or as agreed upon by the school board.
