Larry Williamson will speak at the second of this season’s Author Talk series sponsored by Friends of LaGrange Memorial Library. He will discuss his books at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at the library at 115 Alford Street.

Williamson grew up in Tallassee, Alabama, and earned an engineering degree from Auburn University. He retired after 36 years as a high school math teacher and a coach of football and track. He teaches a workshop on writing novels for the Outreach Program at Auburn.

His first book, “Tallapoosa,” was an award-winning historical novel about the Creek Indian War of 1813-1814.

He followed with a sequel, ”Muscogi Sunset,” about the Second Creek War of 1836.

Other works include ”Over the River, Long Ago,” a collection of stories about growing up in the textile mill town of Tallassee in the 1940s and 1950s, and ”Legend of the Tallassee Carbine: A Civil War Mystery,” a historical novel about the Confederacy’s attempt late in the war to manufacture a new weapon at the mill in Tallassee. In it, he uses a cast of real and fictional characters to explore an original theory of the gun’s emergence and puzzling disappearance.

The author is the brother of Phil Williamson, longtime athletics director and coach at LaGrange College for 42 years.
