The Troup County Sheriff’s Office charged a 65-year-old man with home invasion, aggravated assault with a gun and other charges following an incident Saturday on Maefield Drive.

James William Beck allegedly drove to a family member’s house Saturday with a sawed-off shotgun, and nobody answered the door, according to Sgt. Stewart Smith with the TCSO. Beck allegedly walked to the back, shot through a glass door and entered the home. Beck also fired another shot and hit a TV, Smith said.

The residents of the home were in a back bedroom and were uninjured in the incident. Smith said an incident had occurred between the same parties last week, but the residents of the home thought it was resolved.

Smith said Beck attempted to leave the location,  but TCSO caught up with him. Beck had to be Tased so that he could be taken into custody, Smith said.

Beck was charged with two counts of aggravated assault-gun, obstruction of officer (felony), burglary-forced entry-residence, home invasion first degree, possession sawed off shotgun/rifle and criminal damage to property second degree. His bond was denied on each charge and he is currently in the Troup County Jail.
