Mrs. Mary C. Rowe

Mrs. Mary C. Rowe, 93, of Valley, Alabama, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, at East Alabama Medical Center.

Mrs. Rowe was born March 31, 1925, in Wedowee, Alabama to the late Lonnie Michael Calhoun and Haughty E. Woodard Calhoun. She was a faithful member of Standing Rock Methodist Church and also attended First Baptist Church on the Square with her husband. Mrs. Rowe was a graduate of Woodland High School in Randolph County and worked on the board of registrar for Chambers County until her retirement. She loved plants, flowers and people. Small children were always drawn to her and she loved taking her nieces, nephews and neighborhood children on outings.

Mr. Rowe and Mrs. Rowe began square dance lessons in their early 1980s and danced up until just a year ago. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Mack Phillips.

Mrs. Rowe is survived by her husband of 21 years, James Fred Rowe; several beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews; other relatives and friends.

The celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Dr. Paul Baxter and the Rev. Cade Farris officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Standing Rock United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Standing Rock United Methodist Church in memory of Mary C. Rowe.
