Mrs. Robert M. Miller, 88, of LaGrange, Georgia, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018.

Mrs. Miller was born Betty Elaine Morgan on April 11, 1930, to the late Nunnally and Jean Morgan.  She grew up in Piedmont, Alabama, and graduated from Piedmont High School as valedictorian in 1948.  She received her teaching degree from Jacksonville State Teachers College and added a master’s degree in early childhood education from the University of West Georgia in 1991 at the age of 61.  She spent 30 years teaching for the LaGrange City School system.  Her career there began teaching high school Biology, but she found her true calling and passion teaching elementary students to read.  After retiring, she spent countless hours in volunteer service with West Georgia Hospice and Callaway Gardens being two of her favorites. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church on the Square serving in many leadership roles.  She met the love of her life, Robert Miller, in the first grade and loved to tell that they were together for 81 years. Being a wife, mother and grandmother was her greatest source of joy and pride.  Her kitchen and her garden were two of her favorite places to be.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Robert M. “Bobby” Miller of Madison, Alabama; daughter Beth and Scott Woodell of Chickamauga, Georgia; six grandchildren, Morgan Miller, Audrey Miller, Preston Johnson, Layne Johnson, John Guthrie, Josh and Holli Guthrie and countless former students, relatives and friends.

Her faith always came first and every aspect of her life was grounded on that foundation. She truly had a servant’s heart and lived her life every minute seeking to be the hands and feet of Christ.

The gathering of family and friends will be Friday, Nov.  16, 2018, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel from noon until 1 p.m. The celebration of life will begin at 1 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Max McCord officiating.
