The City of LaGrange has undergone many changes in the last few years, with new businesses large and small, new residents and new national trends that are taking hold within city limits. One of the changes the LaGrange City Council is currently trying to account for is food trucks. The council discussed Tuesday possible changes to the city code to allow more freedom to mobile vendors.

During that meeting, LaGrange City Council members were quick to step forward and state their support for small business owners who run food trucks and peruse similar entrepreneurial endeavors.

Some regulation will remain in place, which will maintain requirements for health inspections and ensure that the trucks don’t negatively impact local restaurants. There may even be other concerns that come out during the upcoming public hearing that will need to be addressed.

We look forward to seeing how those are addressed.

We are glad that the City of LaGrange is taking steps toward allowing this growing businesses type to work locally. In addition to opening up these locations to outside vendors — who in the past have sometimes driven from Atlanta or Columbus — common sense regulation of this growing area will likely open up expansion opportunities for existing restaurants and catering companies who are also regulars at local events.

The current ordinance severely limits how long food trucks can remain at locations, but if that changes, it’ll be a vastly different opportunity for mobile vendors.

Like with any change, there will probably be hick-ups, but we look forward to seeing how the updates can help local small business owners.
