Support local Tunes for Tots

Unfortunately, this weekend looks like a good one to remain indoors. Not only do forecasters expect it to rain the majority of the weekend, but it’s also going to be cold — and rain and cold just don’t mix in the south.

There’s a small chance — marginal at best — that in the wee hours of Monday morning that some snow flurries might fall, but we don’t suggest going to bed Sunday evening expecting to see snow on the ground Monday. That is extremely unlikely to happen.

However, even with the poor weather outside, there’s still some important work going on in Troup County.

The eighth annual Tunes for Tots will take place Saturday night at 8 p.m. at Main Street Pub in LaGrange.

The annual event is organized as a partnership between the Marine Corps League, the pub, the bands and a DJ coming together to help those in need.

Admission is an unopened, unwrapped toy or a $10 donation. Either will help make sure a local child has a gift under the tree this Christmas.

It may not seem like much, but to a child that toy will mean a lot on Christmas morning.

Last year, around 60 toys were brought in through Tunes for Tots, plus countless others through donations at the various Toys for Tots drop-off points around Troup County.

Tunes for Tots is generally the final donation stop in Troup County, so this is the last chance to give.

It’s going to be rainy and the weather will likely be rough, but we hope there’s a big crowd on Saturday night giving donations and toys to the Marine Corps League.

The event starts at 8 p.m. and figures to be a lot of fun. That’s an extra bonus though.

The donation — a chance to give back to an underprivileged child — is a reflection of the meaning of the season and will provide plenty of warmth on what figures to be a cold, miserable day.
