The theater department at Troup County High School will soon be showing its Christmas spirit to the LaGrange community with its production of “Elf the Musical” at Troup High Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Dec. 19 and 20.

“[‘Elf the Musical’] is perfect for the whole family,” said Noel Jordan, the director of the musical. “We just want to pack the house.”

The public is encouraged to attend this event to support the local arts and the students involved in the play.

“[The students are] having so much fun with the show,” Jordan said. “And it’s nice to look out there and see a packed house and a bunch of people who come to support theater.”

Jordan said that during the course of the next week, the theater department will be performing during the school day for approximately 2,000 elementary school children from the Troup County and Merriweather County areas.

Also, it is not only the acting in this musical production that will be done by the students. The costumes and set have been created entirely by Jordan and the theater department too.

“[The students] are gaining new life skills that they can’t get any other way at this age. It grows them as people,” Jordan said. “Sometimes you’re the star and sometimes you’re not, but you’re always up there giving it your all.”

The THS theater department hopes that a lot of people will come see its production of “Elf the Musical.”

“Sharing that experience with family is a cherished moment,” Jordan said. “Take as much opportunity as you can to do that kind of thing.”

Anyone interested in getting reservations for the performance should text (706) 977-9266 or email jordannw@troup.org. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for students, children and seniors.
