The Callaway Cavaliers were well-represented on the all-Region 5-AA football team.

The coaches in the region selected the team, and the picks were made after Region 5-AA champion Heard County beat Rockmart to win the state title.

More than 20 Callaway players made the team, including junior running back Cartavious “Tank” Bigsby, who was the offensive player of the year.

Junior Jacob Freeman, meanwhile, was named the specialist/athlete of the year after splitting time between quarterback and wide receiver.

Bigsby had a monster season for the Cavaliers, who went 11-3 and reached the Class AA semifinals before losing to Rockmart.

Bigsby ran for 2,221 yards on 238 carries, an average of more than nine yards per carry, and he scored 22 touchdowns.

Bigsby had four touchdown runs during a second-round playoff win over Hapeville-Charter, and he also had two 300-yard rushing games during the season.

Freeman was Callaway’s starting quarterback the first nine seasons before moving to wide receiver, and he excelled at both positions.

Freeman had touchdown receptions in the playoffs against Hapeville-Charter and Washington County.

Callaway had 13 first-team all-region players, including senior offensive lineman Keiondre Jones, a four-year starter who plans on signing with Auburn on Wednesday.

Jones is joined on the first team by fellow offensive linemen Keshawn Cameron and Tate Johnson.

Also making the first team was running back Qua Hines, tight end Tee Bonner, defensive linemen Tyrique Anderson and Tre Heard, linebackers Tely Fanning and RJ Williams, defensive backs Sidderian Shealey and Jalin Shephard, kicker Hunter Williamson, and long snapper Walt Stewart.

A handful of other Callaway players made the second team, including quarterback Demetrius Coleman, fullback Jabari Smith, wide receivers Antinez Blount and Markus Morman, tight end Nathan Sapp, defensive lineman Curmondre Bray and linebacker Dee Bonner.

Callaway’s honorable-mention picks were wide receiver Drelin Potts, offensive linemen Austin Thomas and Adrian Porter, and defensive linemen Destin Patrick and Lavaris Patterson.
