LaGrange Animal Services continues its partnership with the Puppy Pipeline as 936 animals have been saved in 2018 so far, according to a City of LaGrange press release.

In 2017, the city placed 497 animals on the Puppy Pipeline. Crews expect to save more than a thousand by the end of the year, more than doubling last year’s number.

Last week, the Puppy Pipeline picked up roughly 28 cats and kittens and took them to Minnesota.

The Puppy Pipeline of Georgia Rescue is a 501©3 nonprofit organization that transports puppies, kittens, dogs and cats to the northeast and upper midwest to no kill shelters that will find them loving forever homes. In the south, there is a low demand, high supply for animals and in the northeast and upper midwest there is a high demand, low supply.

The City of LaGrange Animal Services is proud to be a partner of the Puppy Pipeline since its inception in 2007.

“The need for animals up north is in high demand due to the northern states having such a strict spay neuter law. Once the animals reach their destination they are spayed or neutered and placed up for adoption,” said City of LaGrange Animal Services Supervisor Chris Bussey. “We are proud that our partnership has helped double the numbers of animals saved on the Puppy Pipeline. We also have a great reputation of having healthy, adoptable animals and most are adopted almost immediately. We are very happy to save these lives.”

The animals sent on the Puppy Pipeline spend less than a week on the adoption floor before they find their forever home.

LaGrange Animal Services and the LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society work closely together and are asking the public to consider a donation or volunteering. Donations needed include small bags of dog and cat food, crystal blue cat litter, blankets, towels, collars, leashes and toys.

For anyone interested in volunteering, orientations are held the second and fourth Wednesdays at 10 a.m. at the Animal Services Building, 1390 Orchard Hill Road in LaGrange. Volunteers need to be 18 years old but can be 16 with a guardian. Please call Mandi Bono with the Humane Society at (706) 298-3608 for more information.
