Lady Tigers get bounce back win

Amber Gilbert and Aniya Palmer combined for 29 points to lead the Troup Lady Tigers to a 42-33 victory over Griffin on Friday night in their second game in the Carrollton Holiday Tournament.

Troup (5-4), which lost its tournament opener to Harrison on Thursday, will play Newnan today at noon at Carrollton.

In Fridays game, Gilbert and Palmer were difficult to stop.

Gilbert led the way with 15 points, and she was 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Palmer, who had scored 42 points in her previous two games combined, added 14 points.

Samarria Weldon and Moniya Murphy had seven and six points, respectively, and they did all of their scoring in the second half.

Both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm early, and Troup led 4-1 after the first quarter and 14-8 at the half.

Weldon scored five points in the third quarter as Troup took a 27-17 lead.

Troup’s boys’ team fell to 0-2 in the tournament with a 60-44 loss to Marietta.

Trey Williams paced the Tigers with 10 points, and Ja’Rell Smith scored nine points.

Troup will complete its tournament stay by playing Heard County today at 10:30 a.m. at Carrollton.
