Beware of boxes left by the curb

With Christmas 2018 finished, it may seem like the hassle of the holidays are finally done. All presents are unwrapped, and residents are returning from their holiday vacations and their family dinners.

Now that the hassle of buying expensive gifts for loved ones is over, it may seem holiday package thefts, car and home break-ins will drop. However it’s important to be aware that breaks in can happen due to one factor – leaving boxes of newly purchased items by your trash cans waiting to be picked up for garbage collection.

Make sure to break down your boxes, so would-be suspects and neighbors don’t know what new, expensive items you just got for Christmas they can take.  Just because the holiday is done doesn’t mean people will not steal. Crimes happen every day.

LaGrange Police Sgt. Marshall McCoy said in a previous interview that residents should always be aware of their surroundings during the holidays. Make sure you know what can attract would-be-suspects and keep your open presents safe at home.
