Four teams prevail in first round

Douglass, Harris County and Spalding County joined LaGrange as first-round winners in the LaGrange Toyota Basketball Classic.

In today’s games, LaGrange will play Douglass, and Harris County will face Spalding County, with the winners meeting in Saturday’s championship game.

In today’s loser’s bracket games, it’ll be Grady vs. Arabia Mountain, and Heard County against WD Mohammed.

Here is a recap of Thursday’s games:

Douglass 76 

Heard County 46

Jamarious Pledger scored 26 points and made five 3-pointers to lead Douglass to the blowout win over Heard County.

Douglass was ahead 18-8 after the first quarter, and it extended that lead to 44-24 at the half, and 59-31 after three quarters.

Alijah Huzzie paced Heard County with 17 points

Harris County 61

Grady 55

Harris County trailed by four points after three quarters, but it used a 25-point fourth quarter to secure the come-from-behind win.

Talique Williams, Harris County’s talented junior guard, led his team with 28 points, and Jeffrey Riddle scored 13 points for Grady.

Spalding County 72

Arabia Mountain 65

Spalding County scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to soar past Arabia Mountain.

Josh Reddick, who finished with 19 points, led the fourth-quarter charge with 14 points. Desmond McGill led Spalding County with 20 points, and Franklin Champion paced Arabia Mountain with 18 points.

LaGrange 62

WD Mohammed 23

LaGrange led 23-5 after the first quarter, and 43-9 at the half on the way to an easy first-round victory.

Vondez Taylor led LaGrange with 17 points, and Ahmad Abdurrahman led WD Mohammed with 11 points.
