A LaGrange man pleaded guilty in Troup County Superior Court on Dec. 11 to multiple charges including child molestation. According to a press release from Coweta Judicial Circuit’s District Attorney’s office, Vincent Wayne Sievert entered a negotiated plea of 50 years to serve 20 years, meaning the first two decades of his sentence are to be served in prison.

Sievert performed sexual intercourse and sexual acts with a minor between December 2000 to May 2004.

According to the press release, the victim was between the ages of 6 to 9-years-old during that time.

Between March of 2004 and March 2006, Sievert also inappropriately touched the victim’s friend, who was also a child at the time.  In a separate occasion, Sievert performed sexual acts on another minor between May 2014 and May 2015.  According to the press release, authorities were not made aware of these incidents until March 2017.

Assistant District Attorney Drew Case said the jury was already picked when Sievert decided to take the plea deal.

“Cases like this are never easy,” Case said. “It’s hard on the victim, and in this case it’s very hard on these victims.”

Sievert pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated child molestation and four counts of child molestation.

“Like many cases, this defendant only decided to take responsibility and plead guilty once the case was called for trial,” said Herb Cranford, district attorney for the Coweta Judicial Circuit, in an email. “It is [Case’s] hard work on top of the thorough law enforcement investigation that allowed for justice to be done in the case without putting the victims through a trial.”

Case said they felt that justice was served with the trial.

“We’ve felt that the victims got justice in this case, and we’re very grateful for the hard work the Troup County Sheriff’s Office did and their diligence working on it,” Case said.

Phone calls to Cliff Rhoades and Jackie Cauble, Sievert’s attorneys, were not returned.
