They’re streaking along.

The Callaway Lady Cavaliers made it four wins in a row with a 56-44 victory over visiting Manchester on Saturday.

Callaway, which lost its first five games of the season, improved to 6-7 overall while remaining 3-1 in Region 5-AA.

The win capped a perfect weekend for Callaway, which overwhelmed Spencer 55-25 on Friday in a region game.

“It wasn’t as good as last night as far as chemistry, but it was good enough to win,” Callaway head coach Deyano Martin said following Saturday’s game. “We’ll take it any way we can get it.”

Freshman Gabrielle Johnson led Callaway with 17 points while making three 3-pointers, and she had 11 points in the second half.

Qua Beasley and Haley Holliday each made two 3-pointers while scoring 10 points apiece, and Niakoe Burks added nine points.

Callaway led 15-10 after the first quarter, and it was ahead 30-21 at the half and 42-28 heading to the final quarter.

The Lady Cavaliers faced a challenging early-season schedule, and they took their lumps, but Martin felt those games were valuable.

“I think any time we play stiff competition it gets you battle-tested,” Martin said.

Since losing to Troup on Dec. 15, though, Callaway has known nothing but success.

“That’s always good to go on a winning streak and get you a little confidence,” Martin said.
