The Callaway Cavaliers enjoyed their first best offensive half of the season on Saturday against Manchester as they rolled to a 79-60 victory in a non-region game.

The Cavaliers led 47-30 at the half, and while they were unable to maintain that scoring pace in the final two quarters, they maintained a comfortable margin throughout the second half to ease to their first non-region win of the season.

Callaway (4-8 overall) remained 3-1 in Region 5-AA.

“We rotated, took better shots, got a lot of steals,” Callaway head coach Terry Hayes said. “A lot of times teams that press don’t like to be pressed, and that paid off tonight.”

Sophomores Javontay Boddie and Demetrius Coleman paced the Cavaliers with 25 poitns and 21 points, respectively.

Those two players combined for 26 points in the first half.

Antinez Blount added 12 points for the Cavaliers, and Duke Simpson scored nine points.

“It was really fun,” Boddie said. “Everybody was contributing, everybody went to the ball. It felt good.”

Hayes felt the ability of the players to get to the basket was critical.

“We took good shots,” Hayes said. “I told them no more 3-point shots. Let’s go to the goal.”
