The Martin Luther King Jr. Parade is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. in downtown LaGrange.

Bikel Frenelle will be the grand marshal of this year’s parade, which will follow the same route as the annual Christmas parade.

“She is a young African American female with her own business,” Pittman said.

The theme of the parade will be “The Power of a Dream,” and Pittman said that the entry fee will help fund scholarships.

“I want the parade to keep the dream alive, to keep the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King alive,” Pittman said.

According to Pittman, several churches, sororities, fraternities, civic organizations and school groups will take part in this year’s parade.

“We always have a good [amount of] participation with different schools,” Pittman said.

There will also be a prayer breakfast before the parade starting at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Christian Methodist Church at 106 Revis Street.
