LaGrange ends losing skid

DOUGLASVILLE – The LaGrange Lady Grangers got a much-needed road win over Chapel Hill on Tuesday.

LaGrange’s seven-game losing streak came to a close with a 34-33 Region 5-AAAA victory.

LaGrange (9-10 overall) improved to 1-5 in the region.

It came down to the end, with Chapel Hill missing a free throw at the close of regulation that would have forced overtime.

Zaria Russell led LaGrange with 10 points, Chaquave’ayr Robinson added nine points, and Katelyn Hill scored six points.

The Lady Grangers started slowly, trailing 9-3 after the first quarter, but they rallied in the second quarter to take a 16-14 lead at the half.

LaGrange was ahead 24-17 through three quarters, and it hung on in the final eight minutes to secure the road win.

In the boys’ game, LaGrange led by six points after the first quarter, but Chapel Hill came charging back for an 82-58 victory.

LaGrange (10-9 overall) fell to 2-3 in the region.

Jalen Parker led the Grangers with 11 points, Vondez Taylor added nine points, DJ Burks scored eight points, and Earley Sanders and Jordan Ogletree had seven points apiece.

LaGrange was up 18-12 after the first quarter, but Chapel Hill exploded for 30 points in the second quarter to seize a 42-29 lead.

Chapel Hill’s lead was 57-38 after three quarters, and it scored 25 points in the final period to win going away.

LaGrange will host Central-Carroll on Friday.
