Mrs. Betty Jo Hamby

Mrs. Betty Jo Hamby, 89, of Hogansville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at the home of her son Ken, in Belen, New Mexico.

Mrs. Hamby was born March 22, 1929, in the Lowell Community in Carroll County, daughter of the late J.P. and Flora Eley Staples. She was the valedictorian of the 1946 class at Hogansville High School, attended West Georgia College in Carrollton and was a resident of Clayton County for a number of years before returning to Hogansville in 1984.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joseph L. Hamby whom she married on April 16, 1949, and is survived by her three sons, the Rev. Joseph L. Hamby, Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Houston, Texas; James Kendall Hamby and his wife, Beverlie, of Belen, New Mexico; Cary Stephen Hamby and his wife, Lana, of Stockbridge; sister and brother in-law, Pam and Elmer Williams of Hogansville; seven grandsons and one granddaughter, Jonathan, Jeremie, Matt, Esther, Adam, Luke, Seth and Zack; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Duane Staples, and her sister, Bonnie Jackson.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, at Grace Covenant Worship Center in Hogansville.  The Rev. Joseph L. Hamby, Jr., Pastor Alex Montgomery and the Rev. L. J. Wood will officiate. Interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
