Pageants, wrestling highlight weekend

The competitions will be fierce this weekend with different events, from the Miss Troup County pageant to the West Georgia Wrestling Entertainment’s benefit brawl. The Miss Troup County scholarship program will have three pageants this year with Miss Troup County, Miss Troup County Outstanding Teen and Miss LaGrange Outstanding Teen.

Event organizer Judy Neighbors said they’ve held the pageants for about 44 years. The pageants’ categories include a private interview with judges, a 90-second talent, evening wear, answering a question onstage and physical fitness.

“It will be great entertainment (with) three pageants in one,” Neighbors said.

Neighbors said Miss Georgia 2018, Annie Jorgensen, will be the emcee for the event. There are seven contestants in Miss Troup, six contestants in Miss Troup Outstanding Teen and three contestants in Miss LaGrange Outstanding Teen.

“(People should go) to support our scholarship efforts and support the young ladies in their scholastic goals and to see a great show,” Neighbors said. “These ladies are very talented.”

Tickets are $20. The contest will be held at Troup High Fine Arts Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

“We would love the community’s support in our efforts to give the young women much needed scholarships for their continuing education,” Neighbors said.

Also this weekend, West Georgia Wrestling Entertainment is holding a benefit brawl Saturday night at ThreeLife Church. The event is to benefit the four injured LaGrange Fire Department firefighters who received second and third degree burns while responding to a call on Sept. 3.

The event will include seven matches and three title matches in world, Georgia and tag team categories.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the bell rings at 8 p.m. For tickets, visit Wgwecw.ticketspice.com/lagrange-fire-strong-firefighter-benefit-brawl.

If you’d rather listen to music, Sarah Potenza will perform at Pure Life Studios at 7:30 p.m. Potenza was featured on “The Voice,” and has performed at the venue before. Tickets are $21.50

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is on Monday, and the City of Hogansville is celebrating with a program on Sunday. Former Hogansville Police Chief Moses Ector will be the key not speaker, and Tony Lowe, Robert Longshore and Regina Dukes will be recognized.

The event will be held at 4 p.m. at Hogansville Elementary School Auditorium.
