They finished in style.

The LaGrange Lady Grangers faced a six-point deficit after three quarters, but they broke out for 21 points in the final quarter to collect a hard-earned 46-42 victory.

After losing its first five region games, LaGrange has won two in a row to improve to 2-5 in Region 5-AAAA.

Stephen Tuck, LaGrange’s head coach, was pleased to see his team flip the script after struggling in the fourth quarter of some earlier games.

“One of the things we talked about was, we’ve been playing the second quarter pretty well, the third quarter pretty well, and then the fourth has been one of our worst quarters,” Tuck said. “We talked about giving some of our players more rest in the third quarter, and allowing them to play more minutes in the fourth quarter. I thought we did a good job of that.”

Senior Zaria Russell led LaGrange with 16 points, and she was 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Carmen McGhee added 12 points, and Blair Herrod chipped in with nine points.

Down by six, Shanteria Kelly scored moments into the fourth quarter, and the Lady Grangers were off and running.

With 3:54 to play, Russell was fouled while scoring, and she made the free throw to deadlock the score at 35-35.

Less than 30 seconds later, McGhee pulled down an offensive rebound and scored, and LaGrange led 37-35.

The Lady Grangers continued to pour it on, and when Chaquave’ayr Robinson came up with a steal and delivered a pass to Herrod for a basket, they were ahead 44-37 with 35 seconds left.

Central-Carroll hit a 3-pointer with five seconds left to get within four, but it was too little, too late.
