Troup County Parks and Recreation’s Active Life center in LaGrange will benefit from the resourceful Eagle Scout service project of a local LaGrange Life Scout, according to a press release from Troup County.

Aidan Flavin, a Life Scout and member of Troup 21 in LaGrange, has been working diligently to complete his Eagle Scout Service Project at The Active Life, which consists of installing raised garden beds with vegetable compost. Aidan developed the idea for the project after spending several months researching the fundamentals and advantages of raised garden beds grown from compost. He compiled several different ideas to specifically fit the needs of The Active Life center, and he spent the time personally planning and leading the project.

According to Flavin, he chose The Active Life center, a recreational facility for independent adults aged 55+, because he saw the potential of how it could affect the quality of life for the older adults who utilize the services of the center.

“I hope that the center can use the space to its fullest potential and that the seniors can really enjoy the relaxed area,” said Flavin.

Flavin, a homeschooled senior in high school, has been an active member of the Boy Scouts since he was in first grade. If he receives a positive review after the completion of the Eagle Scout Service Project, it will mark the successful completion of his leadership training. In the future, Aidan plans to possibly work as an assistant leader for the Boy Scouts and attend college to study aerospace engineering.

Once the project is complete, he will turn it over to The Active Life to maintain. The center plans to allow master gardeners to teach classes using the raised garden beds and to encourage the members of the facility to actively enjoy the scenery of the gardens. The hope for the future is that Aidan’s efforts at The Active Life in LaGrange can be expanded to the other Active Life facilities in Troup County, including both The Active Life of West Point and The Active Life of Hogansville.
