The LaGrange Police Department is investigating after shots were fired into a residence on the 200 block of Hearthstone Drive. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to a LPD press release, there were five people in the home at the time, including two adults and three children ages 15, 14 and 7. No one was injured.
“One of our concerns here is that there were five people inside the house, but three of them were juveniles, and one of them was a 7-year-old child,” LPD Sgt. Mark Cavender said. “Bullets don’t have a name on them, so when people start shooting into a house, they don’t know who they are going to hit. That could have ended very badly. We are glad nobody was hit.”
The victims told police that the residence was struck multiple times. The suspect(s) are unknown at this time, but a dark colored sedan was seen leaving the area around the time of the incident. Cavender said that while there have been similar incidents in the city before, they are not common, and the LPD does not receive many calls for the Hearthstone Drive neighborhood.
“It is a quiet neighborhood, and we don’t usually get a lot of calls over there, so last night was an oddity,” Cavender said. “Without knowing who it was, we don’t have a motive at this point.”
The LPD is asking anyone who has any information regarding the incident.
“Usually in these types of things somebody knows something, and we would ask them to come forward because the public is usually our eyes and ears,” Cavendar said. “We can’t be everywhere all the time. We ask them to come forward because that is how we solve most of our cases.”
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the LPD at (706) 833-2603 or Troup County Crimestoppers at (706) 812-1000. Tips can also be submitted through the LPD Facebook page.
